Kid Power Savings Testimonial

Mrs. Joan came in to open a savings account for her new great grandson. She wanted to start a college account for him and start setting money aside now. While I was opening the account, she told me about her granddaughter, Heather.

Heather is now a freshman in high school, but in 2004 she was in third grade at Loxahatchee Groves Elementary School. As you know, we have taught Kid Power to the students at Loxahatchee Groves Elementary School since the program began. After attending the field trip to our store, Heather began pestering her mom and dad to bring her to the bank so she could open a savings account. Heather went to talk to her Grandma Joan.

Heather and her grandma opened a Kid Power account and began saving pennies in the red piggy bank we used to give out. Joan said she has had to tape it together several times. All of Heather and Joan's pennies would get deposited in her account. Because Heather learned how to save, she was able to pay for her yearbooks in middle school and a 4H trip that she would not have been able to attend. Her account has a modest amount in it, but she may use part of it for contacts.

This touched me so much to think that I may have been a part of making a difference in a child's life, that they actually learned the importance of savings. I made sure that Great Grandma Joan got a brand new 7 bank for baby Jonathan's savings. She will be passing on the importance of savings to him.
