BANKATLANTIC OFFERS BANKING LESSONS TO LIGHTHOUSE OF BROWARD CAMPERS
Blind and Visually Impaired Children Learn Tips to Identify Money and Use Banking Tools at Sunrise Store
WHAT: BankAtlantic, Florida’s Most Convenient Bank, will host 20 blind and visually-impaired children from Lighthouse of Broward’s summer camp program to demonstrate helpful tips to identify monetary denominations and the numbers on a check card as well as learn to use the coin machine, safety deposit boxes and ATM machines with Braille. The campers will also learn about banking careers and the Kid Power banking program which provides savings options for minors. The trip is part of the camp’s community week, during which campers visit local businesses.
WHO: 20 students ages 6-12 from the summer camp program at Lighthouse of Broward, a 501 (c) 3 charity that serves the blind and visually-impaired.

About Summer Camp
Celebrating its 12th year, the summer camp offers blind and visually impaired young people the opportunity to enjoy traditional camp activities and learn a variety of life skills. Activities include Equine therapy, Hapkido, swimming lessons, ice skating, sailing, art, drama, dance and bowling, as well as field trips to area museums, banks, grocery stores, water parks, and beaches. The camp also offers computer classes, Braille, cooking, safe travel skills as well as instruction in reading, math, and writing. Cost for attending the KIDS (Keys to Independence) summer camp is offered on a sliding scale and is often free of charge. Lighthouse of Broward also offers free bus/van transportation for campers requiring this service. Funding for the camp is raised through private donations.
