BANKATLANTIC APPOINTS MARCIA BARRY-SMITH TO EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
OF THE BANKATLANTIC FOUNDATION
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL. – June 9, 2009 -- BankAtlantic, Florida’s Most Convenient Bank, today announced the appointment of Marcia Barry-Smith to Executive Director of the BankAtlantic Foundation and Senior Vice President of Community Relations.
In her new role, Ms. Barry-Smith will be responsible for managing all aspects of BankAtlantic Foundation’s efforts to assist charitable organizations and community groups requesting grants and various types of financial support from the Foundation. She will also manage the bank’s internal community outreach programs which facilitate employee volunteerism and civic involvement in not-for-profit organizations.
Ms. Barry-Smith has served as Senior Vice President and CRA Officer of BankAtlantic’s CRA Lending Division from 1996 to present. In this role she manages residential mortgage loan originations, operations and compliance for the bank’s affordable housing program. Under her leadership in this area, the bank has received “outstanding” ratings from the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) for its service pertaining to the underserved through volunteerism and collaborative partnerships. She will continue to oversee this area.

Ms. Barry-Smith’s career spans over 26 years in the banking and finance industry where her senior management experience and responsibilities range from corporate policies, procedures, operations and training to branch acquisition, loan servicing, loan origination and CRA lending and outreach.
Marcia is a results-oriented individual whose track record speaks for it self. Her most recent service awards and recognitions include: the 2007 “Community Impact Award” from Freddie Mac and the CRA National Colloquium; Recipient of “Marcia Barry-Smith Day” Proclamation (September 27, 2007) by the City of Lauderhill, Florida; 2008 President’s Choice Award from St. John’s CDC – Miami Dade and the 2008 “Women’s Circle of Excellence Award from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. She was recently selected by Success South Florida Magazine as one of the 25 Most Influential and Prominent Black Women in South Florida for 2009.
Marcia attended the University of Toronto – Trinity College where she majored in Sociology and minored in English. She serves on numerous boards including Miami Dade Affordable Housing Foundation; Crisis Housing Solutions; Palm Beach County Housing Partnership, Inc. and Women in Distress of Broward County.
