BankAtlantic and the BankAtlantic Foundation Join the United Way of Broward County's Project Lifeline Initiative

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – May 4, 2009 – BankAtlantic, Florida’s Most Convenient BankSM and the BankAtlantic Foundation today announced that they have joined forces with the United Way of Broward County's Project Lifeline initiative.
Project Lifeline is the United Way of Broward County's response to the increased demands being placed upon the agencies and organizations in our community due to the economic hardships now facing so many of our county's families. The health and human services community is seeing tremendous need for shelter, food and other basic needs. 2-1-1 First Call for Help, Broward's community information line, is receiving more than 50% more calls for assistance than last year and United Way's partner agencies that help serve families and seniors in need are seeing a growing demand for services.

“Supporting Project Lifeline and helping people in need is quick and easy. Bring your change into any Broward County BankAtlantic branch during the month of May and deposit your change into our Change Exchange coin counter machines. Your change will be used to make a direct donation into an account BankAtlantic has designated for Project Lifeline. It’s that easy!” commented, Jarett Levan, CEO of BankAtlantic. “Project Lifeline will help families in our community hit hardest by the economic crisis to get back on their feet. We all have jars, bowls, pockets and purses with loose change, and that change, no matter how small, can make all the difference in someone’s life.”

The United Way of Broward County's goal is to raise $1 million for this initiative that will go towards providing immediate help to our citizens most affected by the downturn of the economy. Relief will be provided in two major areas:
• Increasing the amount of food available at the food banks and improving the delivery system to transport this food to our county's food pantries.
• Keeping families in their homes by providing the financial, legal and employment resources they need to keep afloat.
