Community Support
BankAtlantic's corporate philosophy puts great emphasis on giving back to the Florida communities they serve. BankAtlantic employees have provided countless hours of volunteer work through many bank initiatives. Additionally, BankAtlantic and the BankAtlantic Foundation founded in 1994, have provided over $15 million to charitable organizations that promote programs in four key areas across the state:

Community and Economic Development
Junior Achievement®
BankAtlantic proudly supports Junior Achievement and hands-on, experiential programs like JA Finance Park, which teach young people the key concepts of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. The goal of the program is to help students build a foundation for making intelligent financial decisions for a lifetime.
Habitat for Humanity®
BankAtlantic organized and established a not-for-profit organization called South Florida Alliance for Humanity, which supports Habitat for Humanity. This relationship resulted in the sponsorship of 59 homes for 59 families, with a commitment to provide additional homes in the future.
Human Services
Commit 2B Fit
This elementary school program promotes healthier lifestyle choices and encourages kids to take the Commit 2B Fit Challenge. Over 17,000 kids were given “planners” that helped them to schedule everything from classes and homework, to work-outs and nutrition. The goal of this program was to create a grassroots nutrition and fitness program for both parents and their children.
Women in Distress
In 2003 and 2006 BankAtlantic held cell phone drives to collect phones which were re-programmed with 911 emergency numbers and distributed to abused women and children. BankAtlantic employees also participate in their annual Safewalk Run to raise funds for the prevention of domestic violence.
The "Change Exchange" Promotion
Funds were raised and donated to American Red Cross Chapters throughout the BankAtlantic service area. The general public was invited to donate their loose change at a BankAtlantic location for Katrina victims, as well as those affected by Hurricane Wilma.
"The Hungry are Banking on You" Food Drive
Since 2000, BankAtlantic has been helping to fight hunger in local communities. During the annual drive, BankAtlantic employees and customers bring non-perishable food to BankAtlantic locations, which is distributed to charitable organizations throughout Florida.
United Way
Through payroll deduction and yearly campaigns, BankAtlantic employees contribute to the United Way in various counties across Florida.
Corporate Run
Every year since 1999, more than 200 BankAtlantic employees participate in the 5K Corporate Run in Sunrise, Florida. Proceeds from the run benefit local Florida charities.
March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon
BankAtlantic employees in communities throughout Florida dedicate their time for a Saturday morning walk for the benefit of healthy babies.
Serving Service Day at the Cooperative Feeding Program.
Several times a year, BankAtlantic employees serve breakfast to the underprivileged in out communities.In addition, they stock shelves and prepare food boxes for distribution.
Community Centers of South Florida Blood Drive
Three times a year, BankAtlantic employees take time out of their day to donate blood.
Humane Society of Broward and Miami/Dade
BankAtlantic employees have walked annually since 2005 to show their support of the ethical treatment of animals in the South Florida area.
Education
SmartMoney
Sponsored in conjunction with Hispanic Unity, the SmartMoney program teaches Spanish-speaking constituents the basics of money management from savings to borrowing, debt and credit, and how to become a successful homeowner. The program empowers new generations of Americans, by teaching them how to establish a solid foundation for a stronger financial future.
The BankAtlantic/Miami Herald Spelling Bee
This event encourages Miami/Dade and Broward elementary and middle school students to improve their spelling skills.
Bright Horizons
BankAtlantic, a corporate partner with the Bright Horizons School, holds fund-raising events throughout the year to raise funds for student programs. In 2003, BankAtlantic won the Partnership in Education Award for the second consecutive year for partnering with a “Special Student Center”.
Kid Power® Educational Series
BankAtlantic developed the Kid Power program, which provides 2nd and 3rd grade children with educational information regarding money and savings. School Boards have approved and endorsed the 4-week course for widespread use in Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Hillsborough counties.
Arts
Literary Feast, Novel Day and Lit LIVE!
These local community events are held to raise funds and awareness for the Broward County Public Library Foundation, while reminding audiences of the power of the written word. Authors are brought in to discuss their books, review other literature and relevant current themes. High school students and the general public also get an opportunity to discuss books with their authors.
Read Across America
BankAtlantic executives help schools celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by visiting local Florida classrooms and reading books to students. Once read, the books are then donated to the schools for future use.
Reach Out and Read Program of the Literacy Coalition of Broward County
In 2002, BankAtlantic employees held a book drive and collected more than 700 books to donate to this program.
Museum of Discovery and Science
BankAtlantic has repeatedly funded children's science exhibitions, from Dinosaurs to The Big Red Planet. Children in attendance are also encouraged to apply science and learning into their everyday lives.
