Habitat for Humanity
BankAtlantic organized and established a not-for-profit organization called South Florida Alliance for Humanity which supports Habitat for Humanity. This relationship has resulted in the current sponsorship of 59 homes for 59 families with a commitment to provide additional homes in the future (three of which were sponsored by BankAtlantic associates through payroll deduction). BankAtlantic also provides complimentary mortgage servicing and 2,308 square feet of office space to Habitat for Humanity.
Commit 2B Fit
This exciting program invited Broward County third-graders to live a healthier lifestyle and take the Commit 2B Fit Challenge. Over 17,000 kids were given “planners” that helped them to schedule everything from classes and homework, to work-outs and nutrition. The goal of this program was to create a grassroots youth program and nutrition program for both parents and their children.
SmartMoney
Sponsored in conjunction with Hispanic Unity, SmartMoney teaches Spanish-speaking constituents the basics of money management from savings to borrowing, debt and credit, and how to become a homeowner. By empowering new generations of Americans, over 240 Hispanic families in 2005 and an additional 240 families in 2006 will begin to establish a strong financial future.
Hurricane Relief via the Change Exchange promotion
Over $170,000 was raised and donated to American Red Cross Chapters throughout the BankAtlantic service area. The general public was invited to donate their loose change at a BankAtlantic location, for Katrina victims as well as those affected by Hurricane Wilma.
The BankAtlantic/Miami Herald Spelling Bee
This event encourages 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders in Miami/Dade and Broward counties to improve spelling skills.
"The Hungry are Banking on You" Food Drive
Since 2000, BankAtlantic has been helping to fight hunger in Florida. In both the 2002 and 2003 Drives, associates and customers brought a total of 8 tons of non-perishable food to BankAtlantic locations, which was distributed to charitable organizations throughout Florida.
Bright Horizons
BankAtlantic, a corporate partner with the Bright Horizons School, holding fund-raising events to contribute to student programs. In 2003, BankAtlantic won the Partnership in Education Award for the second consecutive year for partnering with a “Special Student Center”.
"Kid Power" Educational Series
BankAtlantic developed the Kid Power program, which provides 2nd and 3rd grade children with educational information regarding money and savings. School Boards have approved the 4-week course for widespread use in Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, St. Lucie and Hillsborough counties.
Read Across America
Executives from BankAtlantic help schools celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by going to several Florida classrooms and reading books to students. All read books are donated to the schools.
Reach Out and Read Program of the Literacy Coalition of Broward County
In 2002, BankAtlantic associates held a book drive and collected more than 700 books to donate to this program.
Community Centers of South Florida Blood Drive
Three times a year, BankAtlantic associates take time out of their busy days to donate blood.
Women in Distress
In 2003 and 2006 BankAtlantic held a cell phone drive. Collected phones were programmed with 911 emergency numbers and distributed to abused women and children. BankAtlantic associates also participate in their annual Safewalk-Run and raise funds to help prevent domestic violence.
United Way
Through payroll deduction and yearly campaigns, BankAtlantic associates contribute to the United Way in various counties across Florida.
Corporate Run
Every year since 1999, 200+ BankAtlantic associates have participated in the 5K Corporate Run in Sunrise, Florida. Proceeds from the run benefit local charities.
March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon
BankAtlantic associates in communities throughout the state donate a Saturday morning to walk in the name of healthy babies.
Serving Service Day at the Cooperative Feeding Program.
Several times a year, BankAtlantic associates serve breakfast to the homeless and working poor of our community. In addition, the crew stocks shelves and makes food boxes for the hungry.
Museum of Discovery and Science
BankAtlantic has repeatedly funded children's science exhibitions, from Dinosaurs to the Big Red Planet. Children are encouraged to apply science and learning into their everyday lives.
Literary Feast, Novel Day and Lit LIVE!
These community events raise funds and awareness for the board County Public Library Foundation. Bringing authors into the community to discuss their books, literature and relevant current themes reminds us of the power of the written word. High school students and the general public get an opportunity to discuss books with their authors.
MOSI
Summer at it's best at Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry, sponsored by BankAtlantic.
Humane Society of Broward and Miami/Dade
Associates are animal lovers too, and have walked annually since 2005 to show their support of our furry four-legged friends!
