BankAtlantic and Kids Ecology Corps Beach Clean Up
BankAtlantic Families Collect Trash and Learn How to Protect the Beach
Life's a beach. BankAtlantic colleagues and their friends and family members proved this saying true as they spent their Saturday morning cleaning up the beach at John U. Lloyd Beach State Park.
On July 18th, nearly 100 people, including children, attended BankAtlantic's first family volunteer day. The Beach Clean Up event was led by Kids Ecology Corps who has worked with the Bank on previous volunteer beach activities.
Throughout the morning, the volunteers helped collect trash and debris from more than a two-mile span of the beach while enjoying the sunshine and a clear view of the calm ocean. Kids Ecology Corps said that the volunteers collected an estimated 120 lbs. of garbage. That's a lot of trash!
After the clean up, colleagues cooled down with refreshing popsicles while participating in an interactive ecology discussion including topics such as how to get rid of invasive plants; recycling facts; ways to slow down and protect the beach from erosion; and how to keep sea turtles safe from hazardous materials on the beach.
Thank you to the colleagues and their friends and families who participated in this event. Its success stemmed from several positive factors: it promoted a sense of camaraderie among colleagues; strengthened the Bank's sense of Community; introduced a lot of the children to the rewards of volunteering; and allowed everyone to make a difference in our environment. Go Green!
